Emmets Ladies
Congratulation to Sophie Lynch and to her Kerry U14 team mates on winning the All Ireland final against Mayo last Sunday. Well done Sophie for bringing an all Ireland medal to Listowel.
Listowel Emmets played host to Castleisland/Duagh in the quarter final of the senior county championship. The game resulted in a win for Castleisland/Duagh on a score line of 1-16 to 2-6. An early two point lead that Castleisland/Duagh raced into was wiped out when Erin Finucane scored a goal for Listowel and the teams traded scores before a hat trick of points from Lorraine Scanlon saw Castleisland/Duagh lead 0-9 to 1-2 at half time. A goal early in the second half saw Castleisland/Duagh extend their lead but Listowel battled away and a goal from Erin Finucane with 7 minutes to go gave Listowel hope but they were unable to breach the defence for further goals. This was a tremendous performance from the Listowel team as Castleisland/Duagh are favourites to win the county championship and had beaten Listowel comprehensively just 7 weeks ago. Since this defeat the team has trained hard and this was shown in their performance and especially during the two ten minute periods where we had players sin binned where the players worked hard to try and limit the scores against them. Every player can be proud of their performance and a similar display and commitment will be required for the B Championship which they will next week with opposition to be confirmed. The club would like to thank Clounmacon GAA Club for hosting the County Championship game at short notice.
Emmet Juniors played Corca Dhuibhne in Listowel last Tuesday. This was a cracking game of football with both teams being very evenly matched. It was score for score throughout with play going up and down the field. In the end it was the Dingle side who managed to hold on to win by a point.
Following on from last weeks Munster blitz in Mungret the U13 team took part in the North Kerry U13 Blitz held in John Mitchell’s on Saturday. Next up for the U12’s is a challenge match with Duagh.
Lots of football in store for our U10’s this week. On Tuesday the girls will play Austin Stacks followed by Na Gael on Thursday. Training continues every Saturday morning.
