North Kerry League Division 3 Listowel Emmets B 3-17 Desmonds B 0-7
Listowel Junior B team took on Castleisland Desmonds in Listowel on Tuesday night last in the fourth round of the North Kerry league. Desmonds started the better of the two sides with kicking two good points within the first 5 minutes. However Listowel came right back into it with a well taken goal by Darragh Leahy. Further points from Eddie Joe Walsh Rici Hanley and Dave Keane left Listowel ahead by 1-4 to 2 points. A second first half goal and further points from Darragh Leahy, Dave Keane Eddie Joe Walsh and Jerry Kelliher left Listowel ahead at half time by 2-9 to 3 points.
From the start of the second half Listowel never stop pressing forward and the introduction of Darragh Hughes made a significant influence on the game. A great team effort by Listowel worked up from the backs where the ball was coolly slotted into the net by Hughes put a final nail in the Desmonds coffin. Listowel kicked on from here and kicked point after point to run out comfortable winners at 3-17 to 7 points.  On the night Listowel were the better team however Desmonds had travelled with a weakened side and were up against it from the word go.
Best on the day for Listowel were Ricky Halpin, Darragh Leahy, Jerry Kelliher and Dara Hughes who finished with a personal tally of 1-5 from play when coming on in the second half.

Castleisland Co-Op Mart Intermediate Championship - Round 1

Listowel Emmets 1-11 Keel 0-7, the scoreline of this fixture does not reflect what a tough battle Emmets faced at home to the 2013 Junior Champions, Conor Cox opened the scoring from a pointed free, followed by a well worked point from Noel Kennelly, Gary Sayers dropped over a pointed free for the visitors. Keel continued to operate a deep defensive game and continued to frustrate the Emmets forward lines, with both teams guilty of wayward shooting, leaving the first half with 0-4 a piece it was all to play for in the second half. Keel raised into a two point lead and were playing with confidence good defensive work by Emmets and in particular the McGuire brothers and Cormac Mulvihill, ensured they did not keep their lead for long, as the industrious Conor Cox pointed from play followed quickly by point from David Sheehy and Maurice Whelan. The game continued to ebb and flow but wayward shooting from both sides saw no team pull away until Micheal Stack shot for the games only goal and place Emmets in the driving seat until the final whistle. Emmets next meet with Spa in the Intermediate Championship on Sunday 11th May at home at 2.30pm.

This is a fantastic opportunity for girls to be part of a team and get regular exercise with their friends.  All girls under 8/10 are invited to come along and new players are always welcome. Training begins at 10.30 am every Saturday at the sportsfield.

With two Listowel Emmets U12’s teams in the North Kerry League it is very encouraging to see the fantastic turnout for games. On Monday the Listowel Lions had a comprehensive win against Castleisland at home in their third game of the league. Meanwhile on Friday it was the Listowel Tigers who played Ballymacelligott. Unfortunately the result didn’t go our way but well done to all the girls who showed up and played some great football.

Well done to Aimee Mason, Eva Browne, Ava Grimes, Cliona Pierse, Lauryn Griffin and Hannah Healy who have been selected for the Kerry U12 Development Squad Programme. We look forward to seeing your newly acquired football skills in action.

In an eagerly awaited game in the County League the U14’s played John Mitchels in Frank Sheehy Park last Sunday. In what was always going to be a tough game for Listowel the girls never gave up and won by 2 points. Well done girls!

While we continue to wait for the confirmation of fixtures the U16’s played a much needed challenge match with our good neighbours in Beal. Thank you to Beal Ladies for coming to Listowel and we look forward to the season beginning soon.

Listowel Emmets senior ladies will play Castleisland Desmonds in the County League Division 1 on Sunday May 4th  at 12.00 pm in Frank Sheehy park, Listowel.  This is a must win game and all support would be welcome.

Gaelic4Mothers+Others training has now moved to Thursday night and starts at the later time of  8.15 pm at St Michael’s College. It was great to see new faces join this fitness programme which is focused on fun and participation.
