County Senior League Round1 : Emmets 0-8 Rathmore 0-8.  Emmets and Rathmore played out a highly entertaining game in Bishop Moynihan Park on Sunday last in splendid sunshine, the home side registered the opening score and quickly added on a pointed free but that was the end of Rathmore’s dominance as Brian McGuire led from midfield with some splendid high fielding where the lively Conor Cox took the first score from pointed free. Emmets defense was rock solid from start to finish with Jack McGuire, Cormac Mulvihill and Brendan Guiney linking well. Improved performance from the younger players Rici Hanley and Darragh Leahy saw Emmets go in 0-4 to 0-2 at the break. Rathmore again opened the scoring with a fisted effort from their corner forward, while Conor Cox put the visitors 3 points clear with a superb long range effort from play. Keith Hughes pulled off a massive save on the 18th minute to deny Rathmore’s only goal opportunity and from there to the final whistle it was nip and tuck, Emmets looked like they had secured victory but a last ditch effort by Rathmore late injury time saw them secure the equalizer. This was a great team effort by Emmets with Currow at home on Saturday evening next they will certainly looking to build on their performance.

Emmets Team: Keith Hughes, Jamie Barry, Jack McGuire, Brendan Guiney, Darragh Leahy, Cormac Mulvihill, Shane Quinn, Micheal Lynch, Brian McGuire, Rici Hanley, Denis Walsh, David Keane, David Sheehy, Noel Kennelly, Conor Cox: Subs: Jake Moriarty for David Keane(45mins), Darren Halpin for Denis Walsh (55mins)

Our Under 14s kicked off the season in the County league last weekend with a great game of football with Abbeydorney. U 14 girls played in beautiful Spring sunshine in Abbeydorney the game ebbed and flowed from end to end with Listowel taking a commanding league at half time and Abbeydorney taking the game at the final whistle by a few points. Outstanding for Listowel were the sisters Rebecca and Aimee Mason , young Grimes taking after her father scored a brace of goals with both legs. We look forward to round 2 next weekend and training continues at 6pm in the Cows Lawn Wednesday evening.
