Listowel Emmets 1-10 Ballydonoghue B 1-15

Listowel travelled to Coolard on a beautiful Tuesday evening last to take on Ballydonoghue in the 3rd round of the NKL. Ballydonoghue played with the wind in the first half down into the dressing room end. They started well and after a number of minutes had opened the scoring to 2 points to no score. Listowel fired back with pointed frees (2) by Eddie Joe Walsh. Ballydonoghue kicked over 6 more points in the first half, however points from Conor O Neill Dave Keane and Eddie Joe (2) left Listowel trailing 8 - 6 at the break.

The second half got under way with a good start from the young Listowel outfit with Ricky Halpin Eddie Joe (3) and Dave Keane adding 5 points to the board leaving Listowel 3 ahead. Listowel then kicked on when Ricky Halpin hit the net with a blistering bottom corner finish. However the Emmets didn't have it all there own way when Ballydonghue went up the field and kicked a great point followed by a well taken goal leaving Listowel 2 points clear. Further points from Darragh Leahy, Shane Quinn and two more from the unrelenting Eddie Joe Walsh Listowel kicked on and won by 5 points.

Féile

Listowel  Emmets  Coiste-na nÓg  respect  the  right  of  the  County  Coiste-na-nOg  CCC  to  issue  a  fixture  but  not  the  circumstances  which  led  to,  and  the  manner  in  which  the  CCC  fixed  a  play-off  of  5mins  a  half  between  Emmets  U-14s  and Austin  Stacks  U-14s on Saturday last 19th April. We reported in our notes last week,in good faith, that we had been deemed qualified for the knock-out stages of the Feile Peil na nOg and thus qualified for a regional final in the Feile at the least but that changed during the week. The matter is in hand but we were unable to sort it prior to last Saturday. Our U-14s put in a spirited performance in John Mitchels GAA grounds against Austin Stacks and the clock ran out for them as they lost 1-02 to 0-03.As the players and mentors left the field of play, it was to the unscripted, spontaneous applause from their many supporters, in what must be said was a special moment. The officers of our club are very proud of these players and mentors and thank them for their resilience, spirit and pride in an extremely difficult time. We will do our best to right the wrong imposed on these players and in the meantime urge ye all to keep training and playing with the same determination and skill shown in abundance thus far. Well done all.

Emmets Ladies

We are continuing to see great numbers in the Saturday Morning Club. This is a fantastic opportunity for girls to be part of a team and get regular exercise with their friends.  All girls under 8/10 are invited to come along and new players are always welcome. Training begins at 10.30 am every Saturday at the sportsfield.

U12’s played Austin Stacks at home in the County League last Monday night. In an exciting match there was only 1 point between the sides at halftime. However in the second half all the Listowel girls lifted their game to dominate the match and won easily on a scoreline of 5-9 to 2-6.

There was no rest for our U14’s who kept busy over the Easter Break. First up was the County League  when they travelled to Kilcumin for a thrilling game which saw the girls secure a win with a last minute point. In addition the girls were out on Easter Sunday for the Feile. Their next game in the County League will be at home to John Mitchells on April 27th.

It was great to see new faces at Gaelic4Mothers+Others which will resume training after the Easter break. Training will now move to Thursday nights and start at the later time of  8.15 pm at St Michael’s College.

Listowel Emmets senior ladies travelled to play Sneem/Kenmare in a Division 1 County League fixture on Good Friday. Despite playing well for long stretches of the game they lost on a scoreline of 0-13 to 6-12 with the concession of 3 late goals flattering the home team.  The team produced a much better performance than their previous game and were not helped due to absence of a number of experienced players. The next county league game is in 2 weeks time with a home fixture against Castleisland. Team: Kate Sayers, Louise Horgan, Lauren Flavin, Rebecca Horgan, Mary Beades, Sarah Moriarty, Caoimhe O Sullivan(0-1), Breda Lane(0-3), Maimie O Flynn, Miriam O Keeffe(0-8), Marguerite Flaherty(0-1), Sarah O’Brien, Megan Fealey. Subs used: Emma Thornton, Rebecca Stapleton and Claire Kennelly. Mascot for the day was Lucy Griffin.

Thank you to all those who have contributed so far to the field draw. Work continues with it’s promotion and the date of the first draw will be announced shortly. We are very fortunate at the Ladies Club to have access to such superb facilities. The sportsfield and clubhouse host the the Saturday Morning Club, football blitzes, home games, awards nights and club meetings. Your support for our club is greatly appreciated. Please return your tickets to Chairman Simon O’Flynn.
