Listowel Emmets B 2-16

Gneeveguilla B 1-7

Emmets B continued their rich vein of from last Friday night in Knocknagoshel against a fancied Gneeveguilla side in this semi final of the junior county league division 2.

Played on an immaculate surface, the wide expanses of the Knocknagoshel pitch suited Emmets and the pace that the team possess's right through the squad saw them coast to a relatively easy victory that takes them into a county final against local rivals Clounmacon.

A number of switches made in the first half shored up any defensive issues that Emmets were having early on. John Heaphy was moved to corner back with 'The Mot' moving out to wing back and Shane Quinns move to centre back steadied the ship allowing Graham Tarrant the space to create chances for the lively forward line.

Jerry Kelliher was a threat to the Gneevguilla defence throughout coming away with 1-4 from play and this coupled with the experienced midfield combo of Darren Halpin and Paudie Buckley with about 70 odd years between the two of them led to this emphatic victory for the Listowel men.

There were no wild celebrations after this victory as this team is looking at the final and the potential of a county title. The first time the club will have won this competition in recent history.

Emmets Ladies:

Listowel Emmets Senior ladies played host to Na Gaeil last Sunday and recorded a deserved victory on a score line of 5-12 to 2-7. Emmets started brightly and a couple of early points settling the nerves and pressed home their advantage with goals from Sarah Moriarty, Rebecca Horgan and Aoife Shine and led at half time on a score line of 3-7 to 1-4.  At the start of the second half Na Gaeil pressed strongly and scored 1-2 without reply but the home team rose to the challenge and a goal from Miriam O Keeffe saw the advantage extended which was never reduced again by Na Gaeil.  A goal from Lauren Flavin and points from Erin Finucane, Aoife Shine and Marguerite Flaherty killed off the game.  This win will have done wonders for the team's confidence and was important before the County Championship.

Team: Emma Thorton, Aisling Grimes, Louise Horgan, Megan Fealey, Rebecca Horgan (1-0), Rachel Stapleton, Lauren Flavin (1-0), Aoife Shine (1-3), Catherine Flavin, Sarah O Brien, Erin Finucane (0-2), Marguerite O Flaherty (0-1), Sarah O Brien, Sarah Moriarty (1-0), Miriam O Keeffe (1-6), Alice Neville. Sub used: Mary Beades.

On Friday 18 July at 7.00 p.m, Emmets ladies will play in the County Championship at home to the winners of Scartaglin and Castleisland/Duagh.  All support would be welcome and the team have trained hard with this game in mind.  It will be a tough test and Listowel will start as outsiders but are more than capable of causing an upset.

After waiting patiently for North Kerry fixtures to be rescheduled the U16’s recorded a comprehensive win against Corca Dhuibhne in Anascaul. Winning on a score line of 0-4 to 2-7. Well done to the girls and mentors.

It is a busy weekend ahead for our underage teams when Listowel Emmets Ladies and the North Kerry Ladies Football Board host an U8’s Blitz this Saturday July 19th in Frank Sheehy Park. Starting at 10.30 am if you are available to give a hand on the day for all or part of it that would be brilliant. Meanwhile on the same day the U12’s will travel to Mungret in Limerick for the U12 Munster Blitz.

Finally and very importantly best of luck to our brilliant Sophie Lynch and the Kerry U14 team in the upcoming All Ireland  final against Mayo this weekend in Mcdonagh Park, Nenagh at 4.00pm this Sunday July 20th.
