Emmets Seniors

: Listowel Emmets had a good trip down to Cahersiveen on Saturday night last where they drew with St. Mary's on a scoreline of Emmets 1-10 St.Mary's 0-13. Emmets defied all the odds as they put in a very good performance against last years Junior All Ireland Champions.

As both teams found it hard to pick off scores, it was full back Kieran O'Connor that turned over a high roaming shot from the home side, found the menacing Ger McCarthy who took off on a gallop sending in a low ball to Conor cox who fisted to the back of the St Mary's net. Emmets responded well with a point from Noel Kennelly, the Listowel side did well picking up a lot of breaking ball with Shane Quinn covering every blade of grass on the field. David Sheehy, Jack McGuire and John Heaphy were linking well while Cox and Kennelly took good scores from play. As half time loomed, a stiff breeze picked up, to the advantage of the home side as they finished strong taking three points to leave the half time score Emmets 1-04 St. Mary's 0-7.

Both sides got stuck in from the throw in, with Cox getting another point to leave the Listowel side one in front, as the game progressed it began to get very crowed at midfield with very little clean ball caught with both sides very dependant on breaking ball. St. Mary's made most of their spell of dominance and took some good scores from play to leave the sides level for 3rd time in the game. It was tit for tat again in the closing quarter as both teams went a head at different stages but at the final whistle as at the end of the first half both sides finished level.

Emmets can be very happy with their progress from the Kenmare game, with Noel Kennelly taking 0-8 (0-5 frees) from the game, along with good performances from new comers Jack McGuire and David Enright. Emmets can also be encouraged by solid performances from John Heaphy, Kieran O'Connor, David Sheehy and Shane Quinn.
