Emmets Coiste na nÓg
8th Annual Jim Corridan Tournament
On Saturday and Sunday last Listowel Emmets Coiste na nÓg in conjunction with Eric & Berkie Browne of Browne Bookmakers served up a great weekend of football with the running of the 8th Jim Corridan Tournament. The Junior Jim Corridan Tournament was contested between Emmets U7s and U8s, Clounmacon U8s and Ballyduff, with Emmets U8's taking the title, with Brion Costello taking the player of the tournament. It was then to Sunday's tournament where the U10s and U9s competed, Canovee of Cork returned to reclaim their title but the Kerry contingent were hoping that the A title would reside in North Kerry with either Emmets, Ballydonoghue, Ballyduff, Legion or St. Senan's.

The opening round saw the home team face the defending champions Canovee as Emmets did well to stay on side with good performances from Tom Harte and Niall Lynch they were defeated by a point, Legion team did well to secure victory over Ballydonoghue, while Ballyduff had the better of Emmets Ladies and St. Senan's had a good victory over Emmets U9's.

The finals saw Canovee take on Legion while St. Senan's and Ballyduff contested the B Final. Emmets Ladies took on Emmets U9s in the C Final, while Emmets U10s were up against Ballydonoghue in the D Final. After four very exciting games and some excellent skill on show Canovee reclaimed the A title after a tight games against Legion of Killarney. The B Final was won by Ballyduff, The C Title by Emmets Ladies and D Title by Ballydonoghue.

Sean Moriarty chairman of Emmets Coiste na nÓg thanked all that helped to make the Jim Corridan Tournament such as a success and in particular to Patsy McCarthy who co-ordinates the Saturday Morning Club and gives so freely of his time to ensure the tournament is run to a high standard. Sean thanked the new Jim Corridan Tournament sponsors Eric & Berkie Browne of Browne Bookmakers for their kind sponsorship and without it we would not be able to hold the event. He finished by thanking all the teams for travelling both far and near and hoped to see them all back again for next year's tournament.

U13s Tommy Madden North Kerry Championship

Emmets will play the winners of the preliminary rounds on Monday 17th September at home at 7pm.

Congratulations to the Boys under 14 team who won the North Kerry League Final for the first time since 2006 with a victory over Ballydonoghue. Ballydonoghue got off to a great start when they went 1.02 up after just five minutes but Emmets settled into the game and lead at the break 1-05 to 1-03. Emmets then dominated the second half with some great passing movements and teamwork with Feidhlim Roberts putting in a man of the match performance in the half back line. Emmets dominance was clearly seen as they held their counterparts scoreless in the second half until the final five minutes where Ballydonoghue took a pointed free, Emmets ran out convincing winners on a score line of 8.10 to 1.04. This was a great victory for the lads who will now look to double up by trying to win the championship later in the year.

Listowel Emmets Ladies
Well done to our U8/U10’s who took part in the Munster Blitz in Rathkeale last Saturday with teams from Cork, Kerry, Clare and Limerick. In total 27 teams took part from 4 counties with lots of games for all the girls. A big thank you to our hard working coaches and parents for travelling and to all the players for showing great skill and commitment.

U12’s had their end of season trip away to Tuam on September 8th. With 22 girls travelling to Galway, Listowel fielded two teams to play challenge games with their hosts. Followed by a trip to Salthill and a table quiz for the bus trip home. Many thanks to all involved and to coaches Simon O’Flynn and Joby Costello for organizing.

U13’s had a challenge game with Ballyduff last Thursday in Listowel. Great training and development for the girls moving up to play in U14 next year.

Coming to the end of their 1st season Gaelic4Mothers+Others will host a mini blitz in Listowel on September 29th with teams from North Kerry.
