Emmets Ladies
Our Listowel Lions U12’s opened the season here at Emmet Ladies when they played their first game in Division 1 of the North Kerry League against Corca Dhuibhne. The match was played in Gallarus pitch on the Dingle peninsula last Saturday under extreme gale force winds. The Listowel girls showed great heart and the scoreline was level at half time. Battling against the wind and a strong home team Listowel were unfortunate to lose by 3 points. Well done to all the players who showed great commitment to travel to Gallarus and to play under such stormy conditions. Next game will be at home to Austin Stacks next weekend.

The senior ladies kick off their County League Division 1 campaign on Sunday with an away fixture against Laune Rangers, time to be confirmed.  This is an extremely tough fixture as Laune Rangers are the current county champions.  Our ladies have trained hard in preparation for the league and will travel to Killorglin with the confidence of producing a performance to trouble the home team. Any support on the day would be welcomed.

Congratulations to Breda Lane and the Kerry Senior Ladies team for beating Monaghan away last Sunday in the National League.  This win greatly enhances their chance of reaching the division one semi final.

Well done to Leah Henry who played with the Republic of Ireland U15 international team in their friendly match against England at Maidstone United FC last weekend.
Listowel Gaelic4Mothers+Others will resume training at the end of March under new coach Miriam O’Keefe. The talented and popular Miriam is a current player on the senior team. This year training will take place on Monday’s at 7.45 pm.

Not long now until the Saturday Morning Club resumes.  We are all set to go on March 22nd and look forward to seeing everyone back at Frank Sheehy Park.

Emmets Ladies are working with the Men’s club in selling tickets for the monthly draw fundraiser for the sportsfield. We are very fortunate to have fantastic facilities here in Listowel. Frank Sheehy Park hosts all our girl’s home games, football blitz’s, summer tournaments, Saturday Morning Club and Awards nights. All our registered players will be contacted in the coming week with regards to the monthly draw.
Tickets are €60 for the year with €900 in monthly prizes. There will be 9 guaranteed winners each month.  The ticket can be paid in full or in installments with the option of  2 payments of €30 or 3 payments of €20.

North Kerry Senior League Division 1 Round 3:

Listowel Emmets 0-5 Brosna 2-15
Emmets have had a sluggish start to the season following the successes of last year and this game was no different. Despite starting this contest brightly with a quick point from Noel Kennelly, Brosna rallied quickly and went on to dominate this third round North Kerry League match in Frank Sheehy Park.

Listowel without their Kerry contingent fielded a very young team and struggled against the physicality of Brosna only managing to register two scores in the first half, the second coming from a 45’ taken by Cormac Mulvihill.
Brosna played some superb football in the first half with Alan Barry at full forward proving a handful for Shane Quinn at full back.

Emmets started with a third midfielder in Brendan Guiney but despite having quite a bit of possession Listowel were wasteful in the final third of the pitch.

The second half saw the introduction of Darren Halpin, Sean Gilbert and Eimhin O’Brien and there appeared to be an injection of urgency in their play. The game opened up slightly as players adapted better to the wet conditions.
Again, Listowel got on the ball quite a lot but showed a lot of rustiness compared to a Brosna team that look to be well tuned in for the 2014 campaign.

Brendan Flavin and David Sheehy took a couple of lovely scores in the second half to put a degree of respectability on the scoreline but this was not to be Listowels day as Brosna went on to win the game with a scoreline of 0-5 to 2-15.
