North Kerry League Div 5 Semi-final Emmets C 4-08 Knockanure 4-11

Knockanure came out on top in a good battle in Coolard on Friday night last. Both teams went for the jugular with 8 goals scored and there could have been more. Emmets had their chances to win it but Knockanure stood firm to hold on for victory.

Our B team will face Ballydonoghue in their Div 3 NKL semi-final with details of this fixture yet to finalised. The B's are also due to kick off their County League campaign very soon, stay tuned to social media for details of fixtures.

Emmets Coiste na nÓg held their awards night in Frank Sheehy Park on Friday night last where a large crowd attended to support the kids. Jack McGuire and Niall Collins were on hand to present the awards. A great night was had by all and the future is very bright for our club.

Emmets Ladies

Our U14 div 4 team travelled to Spa Killarney on May 8th. Playing into a very strong wind in the first half, Emmets had put up a fantastic defensive performance  and were just 4 points behind before conceding a soft goal and point just before the half time whilstle.  Even though the wind eased considerably in the second half, the Listowel girls took the fight to their opponents in the second half and had cut the deficit to 4 points before again conceding another disappointing 1-1 near the end. Another battling performance from the girls ended in disappointment but this team can take great heart from the fact that almost all will be U14 again next year. Well done to the girls. Next game v Crokes at home Sun May 15th.

Emmets ladies

Congrats to Kerry U16 ladies county team especially Manager Graham Shine and Listowel Emmets Sophie Lynch on retaining the Munster under 16 championship title.

The Listowel U14 girls community games football team competed in the county competition on Monday May 2nd. The team consisted entirely of Emmets players who did themselves, their club and town immensely proud by capturing the U14 county title for 2016. The feat was all the more impressive as they beat highly fancied teams from South of the county along the way. First up was Rathmore/Gneeveguilla and what a game this turned out to be with Listowel battling every inch of the way to etch out a one point win. After an easy win in game two against Keel, next up was the semi final and a match against  Cahirciveen and some old foes from the Southern Gaels club. Again this was an epic encounter with the Listowel girls powering to a 2 point win and a place in the final against a Killorglin side who had brushed aside all opposition en route. Once again this was an epic encounter and when last year's All-Ireland U14 community games champions goaled to take the lead two minutes from time it looked to be all over for the team from North of the county. But the Listowel girls were having none of it and their response was swift and decisive, moving the ball up to the opponents inline before working across for a wonderful goal of their own. When the final whilstle blew, the Listowel girls were county champions with 2 points to spare. This was a truly magnificent campaign for this team who showed a steelie determination and no small amount of skill along the way.  They now go on to represent Kerry in Munster where hopefully their tough county campaign will stand to them. Well done to all involved and we wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the competition.

Coiste na nÓg

The Saturday Morning club for boys and girls  continues each Saturday morning from 10.30 until 12 in Frank Sheehy Park. The kids are having great fun while learning football skills and are also making new friends. New member are always welcome.

Well done to both our under 12 teams who played great football on Sunday May 1st to defeat two Keel outfits comprehensively. This group of players are playing very well and are great prospects for the future. They have now won 4 games out of 4 in 3A and 3B of the county league and must play Moyvane in the last game which is yet to be fixed. Well done to both under 12 teams and management!

Our under 14s have recently completed their County league campaigns and are now training hard for North Kerry competitions. The boys played very well in the county league and have a lot of positives to carry into the rest of the season.

The under 16s are preparing for a North Kerry league final against Beale which promises to be a great game. Our boys went through the group stages undefeated but had a great battle with Beale in the league and narrowly came out on top so this game promises to be no different.

Our annual awards night for the 2015 season is on Friday the 13th of May at 6.30 in the clubhouse. All are encouraged to attend.

Finally a word of appreciation must given to Knocknagashal/Brosna Gaa clubs who hosted the launch of the John West feile competitions on Monday last in Brosna GAA grounds. The event was extremely well organised with both GAA President, Aoghán Ó Fearghail and LGFA President Marie Hickey in attendance. The John West Feile Peil na nÓg itself will take place between the 24th and 26th of June.

Junior Premier Club Football Championship - Round 1 (Replay)

Beaufort 0-10 Listowel Emmets 2-10

Our senior team are through to the quarter finals of the Junior Championship after a great win over a tough Beaufort side on Saturday evening last. The home side took the lead early on but points from Conor Cox and Tom McCarthy had Emmets in front after just 3 minutes and that is the way it stead for the remainder of the game with our lads putting in a good display of attacking football. Beaufort had their chances too but our defence held strong throughout with Jack McGuire in particular having a fine game, even chipping in with a fine score of his own. Once again our talisman and captain, Conor Cox had his shooting boots well and truly oiled up and kicked 2-07 of our overall score, the goals coming from a clever fisted effort in the 1st half and a penalty just before the final whistle to cement our place in the next round. Overall it was a solid performance from the team with good displays in particular from Denis Walsh, David Sheehy, Conor Cox and Jack McGuire. We travel to Firies in the quarter final with date and time TBC.

Listowel Emmets: Keith Hughes, Jake Moriarty, Jack McGuire 0-01, Niall Collins, Darragh Leahy, Brendan Guiney, Tom Melvin, Tom McCarthy 0-01, Cormac Mulvihill 0-01, Maurice Whelan, Denis Walsh, David Sheehy, Brian Murphy, Bryan Sweeney, Conor Cox (captain) 2-07

Junior Premier Club Football Championship - Round 1

Listowel Emmets 1-18 Beaufort 1-18

Spectators were treated to a fantastic game of Championship football on Saturday evening last in a sun-drenched Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel. Both teams left nothing on the field of play as they went toe to toe for an hour and twenty minutes as this game went to Extra Time. The first half was an extremely tight affair with both teams defending well. Ronan Murphy put in a serious shift in midfield for Beaufort while Liam Carey and Fergal Hallissey kept the scoreboard ticking over for the visitors. Jack McGuire and Conor Cox stood up for Emmets and it was plain to see that the second half would be another pulsating half an hour. Half-time score 0-8 to 0-08.

Both teams had periods of dominance after the break with Listowel racing out of the blocks with a Brian Murphy goal and Conor Cox raising the white flag in numerous occasions to leave Emmets leading 1-12 to 0-09 after 40 minutes. Padraig Doona goaled soon after and thus began the comeback as Beaufort fired over 5 scores without reply and lead the game by  2 points with 3 minutes left. A great score by Cormac Mulvihill and a Cox free rescued the day for Emmets and send this tie to extra time, the score at 1-15 a piece.

The visitors upped the ante in the first period and fired over 3 unanswered points with 2 of these coming from the boot of Hallissey and the other from Doona as Listowel struggled to contain the constant running from Beaufort's half back line. Just on the stroke of 10 minutes Conor Cox put over a super score to breath life back into the home sides effort and we were in for a thrilling finale to this game as Beaufort now led 1-18 to 1-16. Conor Cox put over a free to leave the minimum between the sides as both teams proceeded to empty their benches in order to pull this game out of the fire. With time almost up, Bryan Sweeney was fouled 25 yards from goal in front of the Emmets clubhouse and it was left to player/manager Noel Kennelly to point the resulting free to the delight of the home supporters. Referee Donal Casey called for the ball and these two resilient sides will do it all again with date and time to be confirmed.

Emmets Ladies:

Our Seniors are still training hard and awaiting their next game versus Laune Rangers

Our U14 div 4 team took on Castlegregory on Friday 22nd in Listowel in what turned out to be a cracker.  The Emmets team which was depleted through illness was very much on the back foot in the first half and while Castlegregory clocked up 2-7, the home team managed just a single point. The signs looked ominous for the remainder of the game and indeed the second half started with another point to the away team. Then as with other games this year the Listowel girls sprung into life and spent the remainder of the match camped in the Castlegregory half. With a massive response, the Emmets girls scored 2-4 without reply and were all over their opponents when the final whistle blew.  In the end this game turned out to be one that got away but the Emmets girls can be hugely proud of a fantastic comeback that fell just short on a scoreline of 2-8 to 2-5.

Our under 12s  division 1 team played Abbeydorney in County league last week and put in a spirited performance before losing a close game by 4-6 - 2-6,. We then went to Kerins o Rahillys and won well in the end. With 29 girls seeing game time.

Our division 4 team played Corca Dhuibhne  last Saturday morning in Gallarus and a great win 6-6. To 3-0 and the buzz back at pitch with Top Gear  also at pitch at same time was unreal.

Our u12s also played Austin Stacks in the preliminary round  of the County last Tuesday evening in Connolly park, Stacks were the better team and ran out winners by 12 pts, We were short a few players on the night, there were some good performances  especially Emily Mc Carthy, who was captain for the game.    Our u11 girls played their final game of North Kerry division 3 league v Currow, they had an excellent win by 9pts, There was brilliant performances by all girls from 1 to 18, the link up play was great to see. They were unbeaten in the campaign and were crowned North Kerry division 3. U 12 champions on Friday evening.

Junior Club Championship Qualifier: Lispole 2-12 Emmets 2-13

Emmets Seniors recorded a hard fought win over a tough Lispole side on Sunday on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-13. The game was in the melting pot a long way before the final whistle as both teams gave all in a typical Championship encounter, but thankfully the lads had a bit more left in the tank to come away with the win. Jake Moriarty, Maurice Whelan, Tom McCarthy and Aidan Quinn all showed well for Emmets but it was the scoring power of Conor Cox that pulled us over the line as he finished with a personal tally of 1-09. Next up in the championship is a home tie with Beaufort next Saturday April 23rd at 6.30pm.

Round 5 Intermediate County League Game
Listowel Emmets vs Rathmore
Sun 17th April @ 12:00
Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel

Round 5 of the Intermediate County League took place on Sunday 17th April in Frank Sheehy Park Listowel.

It was a game of 2 halves.

Emmets put on a great display of football in the first half with Kate Sayers and Sarah Moriarty both scoring goals and all Emmets forwards scoring points.

Half time score was Emmets 2-5 vs Rathmore 1-3

Rathmore did not let the half time score deter them.  They came back strong in the second half scoring a goal within the first 5 mins of play followed by another 3 points.

It wasnt long before both teams were level and it was all to play for.

Emmets faught back hard in the second half and clocked up another 3 points but Rathmore proved the stronger team on the day and answered back with another 2 goals.

Well done to Aileen Sheehan who starred in Mid Field for Rathmore.  Aoife O Leary had a great game for Rathmore in the Corner Back and Sheilann Moynihan played a blinder for Rathmore in the corner forward.

Final score was Rathmore 4-8 to Listowel Emmets 2-8

County Senior League Div 2: Round 3 Listowel Emmets 0-013 Spa 1-14
Frank Sheehy Park was the venue as Listowel Emmets played host to Spa in Division 2 of the County League on Saturday afternoon last. Both teams came into this game unbeaten and a lively game was promised from the outset. The home team were first on the board with a good score by Cormac Mulvihill from a tight angle. Conor Cox was next to raise the white flag from a placed ball to put Emmets in front by 0-02 to no score. Emmets looked to be settling better in the early stages and were working hard in all sectors of the field. It wasn't until the 6th minute that Spa really came into the game and did so impressively rattling off 3 scores without reply to take the lead, with Andrew Garnett and Craig Hickey to the fore. Conor Cox got his fist to a long ball into the Spa square and drew the home side level on 11 minutes. The game was nip and tuck before Spa full forward Mike Foley got free and blasted low and hard to the corner of the net. Both teams traded blows with Cox and Mulvihill scoring for Listowel while Foley and Hickey pointed for the away side to leave the score at 0-5 to 1-05 with ten minutes to go to the break. Emmets recovered well from conceding the goal and worked hard to get back into the game with Jake Moriarty and Maurice Whelan winning some important 50-50 clashes and Denis Walsh sending over a beautiful score to leave just one between the sides. With just 3 minutes left to the half-time whistle, Emmets custodian Keith Hughes pulled off the first of 3 great saves when he tapped a rocket of a shot from Craig Hickey around the post. The visitors really had the bit between the teeth now and tacked on two more score before the break, 1 each from Shane Lynch and Andrew Garnett.

Half-time score: Emmets 0-07 Spa 1-07

Second Half:

As the rain started to fall, Emmets came roaring out of the blocks and hit four scores without reply to race into a one point advantage, Aidan Quinn, David Sheehy and a Conor Cox brace doing the damage. The home side were in control all over the park and really took the game to Spa who found it very hard to contain their opponents. Darragh Leahy, Jake Moriarty and Jack McGuire all grew into the game and it wasn't until the 9th minute that the visitors worked the scoreboard with a placed effort by Craig Hickey. That was just what the doctor ordered as the tables totally turned and it was the Killarney sides turn to hit another 3 without reply, with Evan Cronin and Dan O'Donoghue adding their names to the score sheet either side of another Craig Hickey free. With 8 minutes left on the clock, Keith Hughes was again called into action in the Emmets goal-line with a superb double save to keep Listowel in the game. Andrew Garnett who had a fine second half, sent over a '45 to stretch Spa's lead to 4 but the home side would not lie down and fought tooth and nail for every ball. Another Conor Cox brace gave Emmets hope of getting something out of the game before Mike McCarthy and Craig Hickey sealed victory for the visitors with two well worked scores. This was a tough battle between two good sides who really should hold their own in this years campaign. Emmets worked extremely hard to get back to level terms and will be slightly disappointed that they didn't threaten the scoreboard more often. They have a good mix of youth and experience and on another day could well have come out on top.

Final Score: Emmets 0-13 Spa 1-14

Listowel Emmets: Keith Hughes, Jake Moriarty, Jack McGuire, Darragh Broderick, Darragh Leahy, Micheal Lynch, Maurice Whelan, Tom McCarthy, Cormac Mulvihill 0-02, Cathal Keane, Denis Walsh 0-01, David Sheehy 0-01, Aidan Quinn 0-01, Conor Cox (Captain) 0-08 4f, Dara Hughes

Emmets U14 Div 4 team travelled to play Beaufort on April 3rd.  The game was played in beautiful conditions with both teams serving up a very sporting contest. After some tentative finishing Beaufort finally broke the deadlock after 7 minutes. They continued to dominate the first half and had built up a significant lead by half time. The Emmets girls came out fighting in the second half and really showed their mettle.  They outscored their hosts in the second half but the lead proved to be too much and the Beaufort girls ran out comfortable winners. Well done to both teams.

Our U14 Div 4 team also travelled to Tralee to play Churchill on April 9th. In terrible weather conditions the Listowel girls were always in control of this game. Emmets were ahead 4-2 to 1-0 at half time with Nadine Moloney contributing heavily to the scoreline. The second half continued in much the same vein with the Emmets backs in complete control. Zara Doherty had a very strong showing at mid field while Emma Browne was excellent in defence.. Emmets eventually ran out winners 7-7 to 1-1 and will face Castlegregory at home next week.

Under 16s Listowel home to Na Gael Thursday 7th in the County League. Listowel  played with great heart and gave it their all.But unfortunately the game did not go their way on the evening. Full time score Listowel 0:08 to Na Gaell 4:14, strong players for Na Gael were Clodagh O Connor and Mary O Connell in Midfield with goals coming from Megan Sheehy, Clodagh McHugh and Jadyn Lucey with Meganbeing their top scorer of 1.05. Strong for Listowel were Sophie Lynch, Rebecca Mason and Saoirse Galvin.

Coiste na nOg:

Saturday Morning Club: Training, fun and game continues on this Saturday morning at 10.30am at the sportsfield. All are welcome and hope to see ye there.
Our under 12's had a well deserved break this weekend as all games across the county were called off due to adverse weather conditions. They are away to Beaufort in round 3 of the county league next Sunday the 17th of April  at 6pm.
Our under 14's  played John Mitchels in Tralee on Wednesday the 6th  of April in the 2 of their county league campaign . Mitchels had built up a  lead by half time but the second half was a much tighter affair with the Emmets boys giving a great account of themselves, staying strong right to the end. While Mitchels won the match, the Emmets team can be very proud of their performance, their never say die attitude and their great scoring of 3-6. Next up for the boys is Currow away in the county league on Wednesday the  20th of April at 7pm.
The stretch in the evenings was taken full advantage of bank holiday Monday as Frank Sheehy park was the venue for the opening game of the under 16 north Kerry league. The Listowel side came out on top against a Beale side who had an admirable never say die attitude and everyone in attendance was in agreement that the game was a lot more competitive than score line suggests.
Beale got off to a good start with a point within 30 seconds but a quick reply from Listowel corner forward Mark Galvin levelled matters after a great through ball from Shane Loughnane. Scores were at a premium for a number of minutes with the Listowel defence defending tenaciously before Steven Mccarthy, who was a menace in the Beale defence throughout, hit a rasper of a shot into the Beale net leaving the Beale goalkeeper with no chance. The Listowel midfield were getting on top as this stage and were playing great direct ball into the slick moving Listowel full forward line. The defence was also assisted greatly with the great work rate of the Listowel half forward with Conor Costello in particular tracking back on several occasions to make some great turnovers. Shane Loughane, who made great surging runs into the Beale defence from wing back, then got on the score sheet with a point after one of his trade mark runs from defence. Beale replied with two well taken unanswered points and very easily could have had a goal only for great defending from Jack Donovan which meant Beale had to be satisfied with a point . Beale really had the momentum at this stage. The Listowel boys are made of tough stuff however and Listowel full forward Shane Hughes had 1-1 to his name within 30 seconds after great turn overs by Fergal Wall and Sean Keane.    Beale launched some menacing attacks but the Listowel full back line in particular stood strong and kept Beale at bay on several occasions with some teak tough defending. A Steven McCarthy point was followed by a goal from the boot of Sean Keane after Fergal Wall made a great run through the heart of the ball defence. Shane Hughes added two goals to his name in quick succession before half time to complete his hat trick and  these were the last score before John Ross blew the half time whistle.
Devan McKenna replied to an early point from a Beale free with a point of his own after 1 minute of the second half. Beale made some great attacks at the beginning of the second half but a combination of great defending and goalkeeping from Cameron Joy kept Beale scores at a minimum. Shane Hughes was not satisfied with a hat trick and had a fourth goal to his name after 10 minutes of the second half after Pa Moloney provided the assist. Beale got on the score sheet with two quick points after some great moves from defence to attack and were still trying very hard. A number of wides from both sides followed before 3 points from the boot of Steven McCarthy and a point each from Devan McKenna and Conor Costello again widened the margin. Beale did not give up however and scored the last 1-2 of the goal which a testament to their never say die attitude. This was a great win for a strong Listowel team. Final score Listowel-6.10 Beale 1.8 Listowel Emmets are away to Moyvane/Tarbert on April 11th at 6.44 in their next game.
Team: Cameron Joy, Billy Melvin Jack Donovan Dylan Houlihan,Shane Loughane(1 pt) Jamie McVeigh Michael Kennedy(captain),  Devan McKenna(2pts) and Pa Moloney, Steven McCarthy(1-4) Conor Costello (1pt) Sean Keane(1-1), Fergal Wall Shane Hughes(4-1) Conor Galvin(1pt) Subs: Robert O'Brien, Jake Kelly and Tim Scanlon (all introduced at half time)  Our under 16s are away to Knock/Brosna/Duagh next Monday the 18th in the north Kerry league

Emmets were just a point down at half time but Scartaglin came back and scored 2 quick goals at the start of the second half. The game was tight, Scartaglin played well in the second half of the game converting a lot of scores near the end of the game. Emmets Ladies kept fighting and put in 100% from start to finish. The result did not reflect the effort and determination put in by all the players.  Top Scorers for Emmets were Kate Sayers and Aoife Shine.

A jubilant Eddie Browne accepted the North Kerry Shield. A big thank you to Duagh for hosting a great game in tough conditions, and to St. Senan’s who provided a great game and were very sporting in defeat.

U 14s Training continues this Weds evening at 6pm in the Cows Lawn , well done to our community games team for their participation in the Kerry Community Games competition held in Killarney last Monday , Kaci Jo played through the pain barrier with a sore leg , Zara was on fire with a brace of goals , Sally was super in both attack and defense and Aimee Mason was absolutely flying , next up is Kenmare at home Sunday evening at 6pm
