Round 2: Emmets V St. Michael's Foilmore in Frank Sheehy Park on Sun 30th March at 2.00pm
Result: Emmets 2-08 St. Michael's Foilmore 2-10
This 2nd round County League Division 1 clash between Listowel Emmets and St. Michael’s Foilmore took place in ideal conditions in a sunny Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel.
The game opened up at a frenetic pace with both teams looking dangerous going forward. St. Michaels opened the scoring with two points coming from Ronan O’Connor and Padraig King but Emmets retaliated quickly with a superb goal from Conor Cox.
The first half was an open and entertaining contest with both sides combining some intricate passing movements to create chances for their respective full forward lines. Emmets were solid defensively throughout the first half only conceding 1-3 and deservedly went in at half time leading 1-6 to 1-3.
The second half did not flow as openly as the first thirty minutes as St. Michael’s came out a rejuvenated side after their half-time team talk. Listowel Emmets struggled to build on the momentum that they had gained in the first half and only registered 1-2 in this second period with the goal coming from the fist of Noel Kennelly after a high ball was pumped into the St. Michaels goalmouth.
An inspired substitution by St Michael’s saw number 25 DJ Moran hit the back of the net minutes after being introduced and immediately put Emmets on the back foot.
This Listowel team has a never say die attitude though and they fought hard into the final minutes of this game. Trailing by two Listowel needed a goal to win this game and threw everything they had at St. Michaels but alas to no avail as St Michael’s Foilmore went on to win by a margin fo 2-10 to 2-8.
Overall Listowel were too wasteful with their possession over the 60 minutes and St. Michaels period of dominance early in the second half provided the platform for the win.

Round 3: Emmets V Waterville in Waterville on Sunday 13th April at 2pm
Result: Emmets 1-10 Waterville 0-10
Emmets Seniors had a fantastic win over Waterville away in Waterville on Sunday last on a score line of 1-10 to 0-10 in the County League. Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, Emmets went in at half time 3 points up thanks to a goal from Micheal Stack and strong defensive work by the 6 backs especially Brendan Guiney, Ger McCarthy and Jack McGuire and some excellent free taking from the industrious Conor Cox. Waterville got on top in the opening quarter of the second half but with Brian McGuire commanding midfield against a strong Waterville pairing it gave the Emmets forwards especially Conor Cox and Noel Kennelly enough of ball who duly converted. Hard work from Maurice Whelan, Cormac Mulvihill and Brendan Guiney ensured a well earned victory. Overall this was a great win away from home, considering Emmets were missing 5 from their regular panel.
